Young Engineers Shine at Regional STEM Racing Primary Finals

Two action-packed regional finals have wrapped up a fantastic season of competition for STEM Racing Primary, with more than 250 young learners showcasing their creativity, teamwork, and engineering talent.

Hosted by EESW STEM Cymru, the events took place on February 11th at Denbigh High School and on February 24th at St Fagans National Museum of History, bringing together an inspiring community of pupils, teachers, and supporters.

This season saw 48 teams from 14 primary schools take part across the programme, with pupils designing, building, and racing their miniature cars while developing vital STEM, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.  The regional finals were a celebration of months of hard work, innovative thinking, and determination from every team involved.  Team members accelerated into race day, and once the lights went out, there was no slowing down.  Cars flew down the straights, pit crews sprang into action, and teams navigated every twist and turn of their presentations with focus and precision.

From aerodynamic designs to striking team identities, the standard of work demonstrated the remarkable potential of young engineers across Wales.  Every pupil showed they had the drive to succeed in what was a true showcase of young talent.

Teams who qualified at the regional finals will now progress to the National STEM Racing Primary Final later this month, where they will represent their schools and regions on a national stage.

EESW STEM Cymru would like to congratulate every pupil who took part this season and thank the teachers and supporters who helped steer the journey.  We are especially proud to host the regional finals and to witness firsthand the passion and talent of Wales’ next generation of innovators.

We wish all qualifying teams the very best of luck in the national competition — Cymru will be cheering you on every step of the way.
