STEM Racing primary success
I had the privilege of attending the STEM Racing Primary UK National Finals at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham. This year’s event was the largest Primary final ever, with a record-breaking 70 teams including 9 teams from Wales. There were also international teams competing from Hong Kong, Singapore, and Germany.
I am absolutely delighted to share that Ysgol Cynwyd Sant from Maesteg, achieved outstanding success. They were awarded the Design and Engineering Portfolio Award and also secured a place on the podium for Best Engineered Car. Representing Wales with pride, excellence and recognising their overall achievement, they were ultimately crowned the 2026 UK STEM Primary National Champions.
Congratulations to all the teachers and staff at the school for this remarkable achievement. The team, ‘Phoenix Fires’, have been working at the STEM Cymru centre at Waterton recently and it was amazing to witness the excited squeals of delight as their many ‘eureka’ moments unfolded during the development of their car.
Under the guidance of their teacher, Miss Sian Thomas, the team demonstrated exceptional dedication, focus, and determination. They consistently set high standards for themselves and worked tirelessly to achieve them. It has been an honour to support and work alongside such an inspiring group of young people.
