Newport Schools Embrace Coding with Launch of Micronauts Workshop
Learners across Newport have been diving into the world of coding following the successful launch of EESW’s new Micronauts Coding workshop, made possible through funding from the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund.
The innovative workshop engaged pupils from eight schools across the city, introducing them to key programming concepts in a fun, hands-on environment. Designed to build digital confidence and problem-solving skills, the Micronauts workshop challenged students to code their own countdown game before putting their debugging skills to the test with an arcade-style game.
Pupils were then encouraged to take their projects further, adding new features, enhancing interactivity, and making their games more engaging. This creative element allowed learners to explore coding beyond the basics, developing both technical ability and imagination.

The success of the Micronauts Coding workshop highlights the growing importance of digital skills in education and the value of providing accessible, interactive learning opportunities. By combining creativity with technical learning, the programme has helped spark interest in coding and broaden awareness of potential career pathways in technology.
EESW looks forward to expanding the reach of Micronauts in the future, continuing to support schools in developing the next generation of digital innovators.
