EESW Showcases STEM Racing Primary

EESW STEM Cymru recently participated in the Royal Academy of Engineering’s This is Engineering: Schools – Welsh Valleys coordinator meeting, held at Coleg Gwent, providing an exciting opportunity to connect with primary school teachers across the region.

As part of the event, Chris Harris from EESW led a dedicated session for teachers on the STEM Racing programme, a hands-on initiative designed to bring engineering and STEM learning to life in the classroom.  The session showcased a range of practical activities, including workshops, equipment hire, and interactive projects, giving teachers a clear insight into how the programme can help pupils explore the real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Teachers responded enthusiastically to the session, noting the value of engaging, hands-on approaches in inspiring young learners.  Several schools have already expressed interest in arranging follow-up visits to explore how EESW can support them in delivering the programme, providing pupils with opportunities to tackle real-world STEM challenges and develop problem-solving, teamwork, and creative thinking skills.

The session highlighted the importance of connecting classroom learning with practical experiences, helping pupils understand how STEM subjects underpin modern engineering, technology, and innovation. By bringing equipment, workshops, and expert guidance directly into schools, EESW aims to make STEM accessible, enjoyable, and relevant for pupils at all stages of learning.

EESW STEM Cymru looks forward to continuing its collaboration with schools across the Welsh Valleys, supporting teachers to inspire the next generation of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers through dynamic, hands-on STEM experiences.

“a valuable space for educators who have previously delivered STEM Racing to share their best practice,”
