Circuit Explorers Sparking STEM Futures

EESW is delighted to celebrate the success of its Circuit Explorers programme, which has inspired nearly 2,000 pupils across 37 primary schools in South Wales to discover the exciting world of electronics and engineering.

Delivered across 13 Local Authorities, from Monmouthshire to Carmarthenshire, the Circuit Explorers Workshop offers Year 5 and Year 6 pupils a fun, hands-on introduction to key electrical principles such as conductivity, polarity, and circuits.  Using interactive electronic kits, pupils explored semiconductors, conductors, and insulators — bringing science to life in a memorable and engaging way.

Fully aligned with the Curriculum for Wales 2022, the workshop helped pupils deepen their understanding of science while developing key skills in investigation, creativity, and problem-solving.  Each session could be tailored to complement school topics, making it an exciting and relevant addition to classroom learning.

Teachers have praised both the quality and impact of the sessions.  A teacher from Ysgol Penalltau shared:

Without this workshop, my students would never have been able to learn about electrical circuits practically… this funded workshop gave them a hands-on experience they wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

Another from Willowbrook Primary commented:

“Very beneficial! A 10/10 workshop — the circuit switch board was fantastic.”

Through Circuit Explorers, pupils gain valuable practical experience and a spark of curiosity that encourages them to see science and engineering in a new light — helping to inspire Wales’ future innovators and engineers.

Although the original funding from CSconnected’s Sparking STEM Futures programme has now ended, Circuit Explorers will continue to be available to schools as a chargeable activity.  EESW looks forward to exploring future opportunities to work again with CSconnected on future initiatives.

Schools interested in booking the Circuit Explorers Workshop can contact the EESW team for further details — and join us in inspiring the next generation of problem-solvers, creators, and engineers.
