EESW STEM Cymru First Lego League Regional Finals 2023

The first of this season’s EESW STEM Cymru First Lego League Regional Finals took place on 3rd February 2023 at Christ the Word Catholic School in Denbighshire. Just a couple of days after the first EESW FLL event of the season in North Wales, EESW STEM Cymru hosted the First Lego League South West Wales event, at The National Waterfront Museum Swansea on 7th February 2023.

Schools in North Wales were supported by EESW in the run up to the event and it was impressive to see the standard of work being presented by both Primary and Secondary Schools. The judges attending the event were equally impressed, with levels of design, innovation, and coding, improving year on year!

Congratulations to all the teams who competed this year, and an even bigger congratulations to the following award winners!

Robot Design Award – Christ the Word Catholic High School

Core Values Award – Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen

Innovation Project – Ysgol y Creuddyn

Robot Game Award – Ysgol Morgan Llwyd

Rising Star Award – Ruthin School

Breakthrough Award – Ruthin School

Motivate Award – Denbigh High School

North Wales Champions Award – Ysgol Morgan Llwyd

Finally, a big thank you to the judges who attended, the school teams and their teachers for taking part, and finally to Christ the Word Catholic School staff for giving up their time (and school space!) and making the event a huge success!

We look forward to next year’s North Wales event for the 2023/24 season!

Just a couple of days after the first EESW FLL event of the season in North Wales, EESW STEM Cymru hosted the First Lego League South West Wales event, at The National Waterfront Museum Swansea on 7th February 2023.

11 of the South West Wales teams arrived early on the Tuesday morning, eager to set up in advance and make use of the practice area for any last-minute adjustments to their coding and presentations. Teams scored well in all areas of the competition, with judges particularly impressed with several of the Innovation Projects which teams had developed for this year’s Super Powered season. Congratulations to all the teams who competed this year, and an even bigger congratulations to the following award winners!

Round 3 of EESW STEM Cymru’s First Lego League Regional Finals  for Schools in South East Wales was held at The College Merthyr Tydfil on Friday 10th February 2023.

At this year’s South East Wales Regional Final, there was a great mix of schools that were new to the First Lego League, who competed alongside more experienced schools, all eager to win an award  and be crowned Regional Champions. Robot design was a strong category, with teams proudly showing the judges all they had achieved throughout the season. It was also great to see ‘gracious professionalism’ throughout the event, something that FIRST is all about.
