Developed to introduce students to STEM subjects in the most engaging way possible – through the creation of a miniature F1 car – STEM RACING (Formerly F1 in Schools) is an educational project like no other. Designed for teachers, informed by engineers, and endorsed by F1, this programme sets students on the fast track to STEM success; and provides a lot of fun on the way there.
EESW are the Wales Regional event hosts and are also a STEM Racing™ Manufacturing Centre.
There are two stages to registration. The first stage is to register the number of teams, however as places are limited, please only register the number of teams that you expect to enter.
Schools can enter up to 5 teams of 3-6 pupils to take part in designing and manufacturing the fastest car possible, emulating the processes employed by real engineering companies before preparing their cars ready to race. Teams are assessed on the speed of the car, design and engineering, verbal presentation and even their pit display.
Teams compete for prestigious awards with the chance of representing Wales at the National and World Finals.
For more information see: https://www.stemracing.com/basic-steps.html
Please note: From September 2025, EESW will no longer receive funding to provide this activity free of charge to maintained schools in Wales. Please see costs to participate below.
Schools do not necessarily need to cover all costs, as pupils should seek funding through sponsorship as part of the programme.
