This STEM challenge which is open to 9-11 year olds encourages pupils to design and race an F1 in Schools Primary Class race car. Complete with wheels, body and even a model driver, teams compete at a regional event for prestigious awards and could potentially be crowned the Wales Regional Winners and have the opportunity to represent Wales at the UK National Finals.
Schools can enter up to 5 teams of 3-6 pupils to take part in designing and manufacturing the fastest car possible, emulating the processes employed by real engineering companies before preparing their cars ready to race. Teams are assessed on the speed of the car, design and engineering, verbal presentation and even their pit display.
There are 3 manufacturing options for teams to produce their car bodies, covering all levels of skill and timeframe which makes the F1 in Schools Primary Challenge accessible to all abilities. EESW can even support teams with equipment to manufacture their own car bodies if desired.
For the most competitive of teams, EESW can provide wind tunnel testing either at our manufacturing centre or in the classroom, where pupils can learn how to improve the aerodynamics of their own cars and turn great designs into winning designs.
The challenge inspires pupils to develop their STEM skills and learn about areas of physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way.
As an introduction to F1 in Schools Primary Class Challenge schools may want to partake in EESW's 'Speed Challenge' - an activity in which pupils will engage in a taster session, assembling and racing simple F1 type cars in their school hall. If they wish, Schools can then select teams to go forward and enter the F1 in Schools Primary Challenge. Click here for more info
Previous schools who have taken part in the Jaguar 2D Challenge will be familiar with many aspects the F1 in Schools Primary Class has to offer and are encouraged to take part.
