i2E is a collection in school activities and workshops, designed to stimulate the interest of young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects by providing a task set in an enjoyable and real context.

EESW/STEMCymru offer a selection of in-school workshops designed to stimulate the interest of young people in STEM subjects though hands on, practical activities.

Example EQ car

Energy Quest:
This workshop challenges students to work in small teams to design and build a solar powered car. Teams will then gather data on how their car performs when charged to various voltages and use this data to attempt to have their car land on a given target.

Example wind turbine

Wind Turbines:
Students will work in teams to assemble a working model of a wind turbine, they will then investigate gear ratios and blade design in order to optimise their wind turbine to produce the highest possible voltage.

Crumble Controller:
In this workshop, students will create simple circuits using a 'Crumble Microcontroller' with LEDs, switches and buzzers. Students will program their Crumble to operate these circuits.

BBC MicroBit:

Students will work through a series of challenges to program a Microbit to operate a model car. Students will use what they have learned to create a remote controlled car which they will use to complete a final challenge.

The FIRST LEGO League is a global science and technology challenge for teams of up to ten students aged 9 to 16. The students work together to explore a given topic and to design, build and program a LEGO EV3 robot to solve a series of missions.

Teams will meet at regional finals to celebrate their work and select a team to represent Wales in the UK finals.

The FIRST LEGO League JR is a STEM programme for students aged 6 to 9 years. Similarly to the FIRST LEGO League, teams of up to ten students research a given topic and display their ideas on a 'Show Me poster', and build a LEGO model to help communicate their ideas and program one part of their model to move using a LEGO WeDo kit. 

Teams meet at a regional event to present and celebrate their work with other teams.

Tomorrow's Engineers Robotics Challenge:

The Tomorrows Engineers Robotics Challenge is a team based programme for students aged 11 – 14 years. Students work to build and program a LEGO EV3 robot to complete a series of short aviation themed missions. Teams will also present a solution to a contemporary engineering problem and receive feedback on their work from the engineering community. Teams will meet at a regional heats and a team will be selected to take part in the national finals.
