F1 – Dave Tiddy, Head of 6th Form, Ysgol Pen Y Bryn

This has been a fabulous experience for our school, and has been unlike any other project that we have previously been involved with.  Motivation for this project was marvellous, as you never need to justify why you are building a “Race Car”.  For our project we had to design, make and race our own unique gas powered race car at the Welsh Heat of the Bloodhound Challenge as part of Formula One in schools.  Our main aim was to take […]

Kate Jones – Trainee Rehabilitation Engineer

I don’t think that I ever knew what career I wanted when I was younger. I’d thought about being a vet, translator or doctor but nothing really struck me. I knew that I liked to be creative and hands on, solve problems, speak languages and I wanted to do something that helped others. I chose to study Geography, German, French and Graphics at GCSE level and at sixth form French, Mathematics and Biology. Whilst at sixth form I attended a […]

Louise Bungay – Past EESW student

was interested in studying engineering from an early age. I remember driving down a road with my dad saying “I helped design this”. This caught my attention and made me think I wanted to do the same. There are not many professions where you get to leave your mark on the world, with your designs actually being built. At Llanfyllin High School I studied Maths, Physics, History, Geography and Chemistry A-Levels. All of which I have found to be of […]
